About

Holmes, Dowds and Reid cycle 5000 miles across the USA

In the summer of 2009 three lads from England – Chris “Christiano” Holmes, Dowds and Callum Reid – flew out of Blighty with their bikes in boxes and set off to ride the TransAmerica Trail coast to coast.

We left London on 25 June 2009, spent a night in a Washington DC hostel, dipped our wheels in the Atlantic at Assateague Island on 27 June, and pointed our bikes west.

The Lads

  • Christiano – chief blogger, takes 2.5 hours to pack a tent, eats 10 ice creams a day.
  • Dowds – undefeated champion of the state-border sprint. Puncture magnet.
  • Callum – wears earplugs, gets blown off his bike by twisters, loses his passport.

The blog

45 posts from the road, written in libraries, motels and dodgy WiFi spots between 25 Jun 2009 and 30 Aug 2009. We fell behind on the blogging somewhere around Yellowstone (no WiFi, loads of bears) – the last post is from Mt Vernon, Oregon.
